Meet and Sponsor Our Pigs

ADAM

Sponsor Adam!  Adam came to PRS with four other male potbelly pigs from a state cruelty seizure in the summer of 2019. Filthy, terrifying, and nearly starved to death, all five boys were traumatized, but none so much as Adam who would run away in fear if we even looked at him. These days, Adam has slowly come around and allows us to be in his space and gently pet him, especially if we bring snacks.

ANGUS

Sponsor Angus!  Angus arrived at PRS as the sole survivor in a state cruelty seizure where a local farmer went on a shooting spree, killing nearly all of the other pigs and burying them to cover up evidence of their starvation during the investigation. He was going to try to sell Angus for breeding before state agents removed him and brought him to PRS. Angus has a larger than life personality and is our resident trouble-maker.

ANTON

Sponsor Anton! Anton came to PRS the day he was born along with his siblings and their mother, Eleanor. We were alerted to their situation when a local farmer arrived at the sanctuary pleading for help with a pig in severe distress with a stillborn piglet lodged in her birth canal. Our director rushed over, removed the stillborn piglets and helping deliver the rest of the live piglets and brought the entire family home to PRS.

BUBBLES

Sponsor Bubbles! Bubbles came to PRS when her guardian could no longer give her the care she needed. She arrived her dangerously overweight and it took months to get her to a healthy weight. Never having lived with other pigs, at first she wanted nothing to do with the others, but over time she formed deep friendships with fellow pigs, Hermione and Minerva. Bubbles has the very best smile.

CASPER

Sponsor Casper! In the spring of 2019, a local cat rescuer called us begging for help with three young piglets she found when trying to help with a bad cat hoarding case. Seeing starving, desperate pigs and dead piglets in a filthy barn, she pleaded with the farmhand to give her the three surviving piglets. He agreed saying they would just die anyway. We agreed to take them if she reported the situation to state authorities.

CLAUS

Sponsor Claus! Claus came to PRS the day he was born along with his siblings and their mother, Eleanor.

ELEANOR

Sponsor Eleanor! We were alerted to Eleanor’s situation when a local farmer arrived at the sanctuary pleading for help with a pig in severe distress with a stillborn piglet lodged in her birth canal. Our director rushed over, removed the stillborn piglets and helping deliver the rest of the live piglets and brought the entire family home to PRS. Today she happily lives with her now-adult piglets, Anton, Claus, and Shannon.

FREYA

Sponsor Freya! Freya is one of the seven piglets who was born at PRS in September of 2019 after their pregnant mother, Josephine, was seized in a state cruelty case earlier that summer. All of the babies are deeply devoted to their wonderful mother. Raised in a place where they have always known safety and love, all of the babies are exceptionally friendly and trusting. Freya is the most rascally and playful in her family.

GRETA

Sponsor Greta! Greta is one of the seven piglets who was born at PRS in September of 2019 after their pregnant mother, Josephine, was seized in a state cruelty case earlier that summer. All of the babies are deeply devoted to their wonderful mother. Raised in a place where they have always known safety and love, all of the babies are exceptionally friendly and trusting. Greta loves bringing her human friends stick to play.

GUS

Sponsor Gus! Gus is part of our “Woods Pigs” herd here at the sanctuary. Raised in the woods without any shelter and limited human interaction, Gus and the other eight young pigs in his group were semi-feral and terrified of humans and aggressive towards us when we rescued them. Gus is the largest and most dominant pig in his group. He was also the first in his group to decide the humans here are his friends.

GUSTAV

Sponsor Gustav! Gustav is one of the seven piglets who was born at PRS in September of 2019 after their pregnant mother, Josephine, was seized in a state cruelty case earlier that summer. All of the babies are deeply devoted to their wonderful mother. Raised in a place where they have always known safety and love, all of the babies are exceptionally friendly and trusting. Gustav is the largest and most dominant of the family.

HERVE

Sponsor Herve! Hervé came to PRS with four other male potbelly pigs from a state cruelty seizure in the summer of 2019. Filthy, terrifying, and nearly starved to death, all five boys were traumatized. Hervé was still a fairly young piglet when he arrived. He is best friends with Pierre, another young pig from his rescue. Hervé and Pierre were the first two in their group to start to trust their caregivers.

JOSEPHINE

Sponsor Josephine! Josephine was found by state agents trapped in a small waste-filled trailer. Entirely hairless and severely emaciated, she was in such poor condition she was deemed ‘unfit for human consumption’ and allowed to go to sanctuary. We have never seen a more broken pig. She arrived here pregnant, needing intense rehabilitation but happily lives with her seven now-adult piglets, whom she adores.

KELLYANNE

Sponsor Kellyanne! Kellyanne, also known as KC, came to PRS in the fall of 2018 when she needed a cushy, forever home to come to where she could live with other pigs. A funny and friendly little lady, we buddied up Kellyanne with one of our other pigs, Stella, when she arrived. The two quickly bonded and have become and inseparable pair. Kellyanne is one of our loudest pigs when it is time for dinner!

LEILI

Sponsor Bubbles!

MAGPIE

Sponsor Magpie!

MATILDA

Sponsor Matilda! Matilda gave someone quite the surprise when they went into their horse barn and found her inside. Covered in bruises and road rash, we are pretty certain Matilda, who was used as a breeding sow, had jumped off a slaughter truck and saved her own life. She lives in a small group of pigs with fellow slaughter truck jumper, Wilbur, and Angus. She is one of our sweetest pigs here.

NIGEL

Sponsor Nigel! Nigel is one of the seven piglets who was born at PRS in September of 2019 after their pregnant mother, Josephine, was seized in a state cruelty case earlier that summer. All of the babies are deeply devoted to their wonderful mother. Raised in a place where they have always known safety and love, all of the babies are exceptionally friendly and trusting. Nigel is now a big boy, but he is incredibly gentle and kind.

NOAH

Sponsor Noah! Noah is part of our “Woods Pigs” herd here at the sanctuary. Raised in the woods without any shelter and limited human interaction, Noah and the other eight young pigs in his group were semi-feral and terrified of humans and aggressive towards us when we rescued them. These days, the “Woods Pigs” have learned that we are their friends, even though they still prefer each other’s company to ours.

NOEL

Sponsor Noel! When a fellow activist saw Noel being given away for free and at high risk of being taken to be killed for food, she took him in, even though she hadn’t been planning on adding a pig to her micro-sanctuary and kept him for a while before realizing he would be happier in an environment where he could have other pig friends. Noel has special friendships with Bubbles, Hermione, and Minerva.

OLGA

Sponsor Olga! Olga is one of the seven piglets who was born at PRS in September of 2019 after their pregnant mother, Josephine, was seized in a state cruelty case earlier that summer. All of the babies are deeply devoted to their wonderful mother. Raised in a place where they have always known safety and love, all of the babies are exceptionally friendly and trusting. Olga is best friends with her sister, Ingrid.

ONYX

Sponsor Onyx! Onyx came to PRS from a state cruelty seizure along with her sister, Opal, when they were both young pigs. Suffering without food, water, or adequate shelter in the brutal Maine winter, these two young piglets came to PRS along with ten ducks and eight rabbits. Coming here when they were still young, Onyx and Opal are some of our sweetest and most friendly pigs here.

OPAL

Sponsor Opal! Opal came to PRS from a state cruelty seizure along with her sister, Onyx, when they were both young pigs. Suffering without food, water, or adequate shelter in the brutal Maine winter, these two young piglets came to PRS along with ten ducks and eight rabbits. Coming here when they were still young, Opal and Onyx are some of our sweetest and most friendly pigs here.

PENNY

Sponsor Penny! Purchased on the side of the road for a few dollars, Penny was being raised upstairs in a city apartment where she was living in a tiny bathtub. While she was still young and fairly small at this point, this wasn’t an appropriate living situation for any pig, much less one would end up weighing over 500 lbs. When we saw the photos of her in a filthy bathtub we knew we needed to take her in.

PIERRE

Sponsor Pierre! Pierre came to PRS with four other male potbelly pigs from a state cruelty seizure in the summer of 2019. Filthy, terrifying, and nearly starved to death, all five boys were traumatized. Pierre was still a fairly young piglet when he arrived. He is best friends with Hervé, another young pig from his rescue. Pierre and Hervé were the first two in their group to start to trust their caregivers.

ROGER

Sponsor Roger! Roger came to PRS with four other male potbelly pigs from a state cruelty seizure in the summer of 2019. Filthy, terrifying, and nearly starved to death, all five boys were traumatized. He is best friends with another pig from his rescue, Sonny. He is also quite fond of Stella and Kellyanne, two other potbelly pigs who befriended this group after their rescue.

ROSCOE

Sponsor Roscoe! Roscoe is one of the seven piglets who was born at PRS in September of 2019 after their pregnant mother, Josephine, was seized in a state cruelty case earlier that summer. All of the babies are deeply devoted to their wonderful mother. Raised in a place where they have always known safety and love, all of the babies are exceptionally friendly and trusting. Once the runt, Roscoe is Josephine’s most favorite baby.

SHANNON

Sponsor Shannon! Shannon came to PRS the day she was born along with her siblings and their mother, Eleanor.

STELLA

Sponsor Stella! Stella is a wonderful, sweet little potbelly lady who was only a few months old but had already been bounced from house to house as a piglet because people were mad that she was causing mischief as a bored little piglet in their houses. Spending a couple months as our ‘office pig’ before finding her piggy best friend, Kellyanne, Stella has a special bond with some of her caregivers.

WILBUR

Sponsor Wilbur! Wilbur arrived at PRS in the fall of 2019 after jumping off a slaughter truck and finding himself at a local dog shelter where he was going to be adopted out to a family who wanted to eat him. When a board member at this shelter called us pleading to take him in instead, we knew we needed to say yes. A rascally but loveable trouble maker, Wilbur is best friends with Angus the pig.

WINSTON

Sponsor Winston! Winston, one of our littlest potbelly pigs here at PRS, is a favorite pig of nearly all of our visitors. He is best friends with one of our largest pigs, Penny, and is one of our most vocal pigs here, always talking with his caregivers and grunting his little greetings. Funny and clever, you can usually find Winston making sure that he has the warmest and coziest spot in the nest, squished in between his friends.
